About me

Ciao! Moikka!

I am Michael Neri, and I am a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Tampere University in the Audio Research Group. My research interests lie in the domain of Artificial Intelligence techniques applied to sound solving tasks: Replay Speech Detection using multi-channel recordings, Sound Event Detection, Acoustic Scene Classification, and Speaker Distance Estimation. Most of my audio processing works are within the DCASE (Detection and Classification of Acoustic Scene and Events) research context. At the same time, I am also interested in the effective quality assessment of multimedia (point clouds, light fields, etc…) using objective metrics.

I graduated in 2019 with a Laurea (B.Sc.) in Information Engineering (with a thesis on network traffic monitoring) and further in 2021 with a Laurea Magistrale (M.Sc.) in ICT for Internet & Multimedia (with a thesis on 3D object detection from point clouds) at the University of Padua. I pursued the PhD (Doctor Europaeus) in Applied Electronics at Roma Tre University in 2025.

In 2023, I visited Tampere University, Finland, as a visiting Ph.D. student, where I conducted research regarding Speaker Distance Estimation by using single-channel recordings under the supervision of Prof. Virtanen.

I am an IEEE and EURASIP Member, Editorial Manager for Signal Processing: Image Communication journal (Elsevier), and a reviewer for several journals (IEEE Transactions on Image Processing, IEEE Transactions on Multimedia, IEEE Transactions on Broadcasting, IEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Applied Earth Observations and Remote Sensing, Expert Systems with Application, Signal Processing: Image Communications, IEEE Access) and conferences (IEEE ICME, IEEE WASPAA, IEEE ICASSP, IEEE MMSP, DCASE, IEEE WIFS, ISPA).
